Access and opening hours

You should plan on about 1 hour and a half for a meaningful tour of the permanent collection and 45 minutes more for the temporary exhibition (on the ground floor).

The museum ticket is valid with no time-limits throughout the day but any exit is definitive.

It depends on the size of the luggage: only bags not over the maximum measurements of 45 x 100 x 62 cm are allowed.

However, owing to the Vigipirate security measures, suitcases, cabin suitcases and cumbersome luggage are strictly forbidden inside the museum.
For less cumbersome bags, a free baggage-check service is available to visitors, within the limit of available room. It is not possible to visit the museum with a shopping trolley.

A plan of the museum (in French and English) is available at the museum reception as well as the tickets control level.

Paid thematic lectures-visits of the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions are organised by the museum (check the calendar of activities proposed).

Free presentations in the permanent collections are proposed on the first Sunday of the month (enrolment on the spot, without reservation, within the limits of available places).

The museum does not offer visit audio-guide type assistance.

Belly baby carriers, strollers, and folding strollers are allowed in the museum. But be careful: baby buggies and baby back carriers (not folding) are not permitted. 

A baby-changing table is available in the third-floor lavatories.

For visitors  with reduced mobility, the access to the principal site is by a ramp, located to the left of the stairs on the Place d’Iéna. For your comfort, it is preferable to be accompanied to take it.

Access to the inside of the building is by the first door after the ramp.

An elevator and lifts serve the different levels of the museum rooms.

Two wheelchairs are available at the museum reception on deposit of an identity document. It is not possible to reserve the wheelchairs.

The Hôtel d’Heidelbach and the Musée d’Ennery are not accessible to persons with reduced mobility.

For equipped hard-of-hearing visitors: the reception, cash registers, boutique and auditorium are fitted with a magnetic loop.

Guide and support dogs are permitted (on presentation of a medical attestation). For more information please follow this link.

The Japanese garden is accessible to everyone from April to November with the same hours as the Hôtel d’Heidelbach (closed from 11.30 AM to 2.30 PM), except in case of a special event (specific  lectures-visits, European Days of the Patrimony, Rendez-vous des jardins, tea ceremonies organised by the Museum, etc.) or if weather conditions are not favourable.

The Musée d’Ennery can be visited in the context of lecture-visits.

Starting December 21, 2025, the Musée d'Ennery will close for renovation.

The main museum’s panoramic terrace is open during museum hours, except in case of inclement weather or special events. For safety reasons, access may be restricted during the winter months.

Please note: the terrace will be closed starting October 6, 2025. Reopening in mid-May 2026.

A bookstore operated by the Réunion des musées nationaux (RMN) is open during the museum’s regular hours and is free to enter (no ticket required).

There are two eating options available to visitors at the Guimet Museum: 

- The Hanok restaurant, open year-round from Wednesday to Monday, 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

- The Han Rooftop terrace, open from June to September, Wednesday through Monday, 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from mid-May through September, it is open from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM (except in case of inclement weather or special events). Before visiting, please call the museum or Misso Corée at 01 56 52 53 55.

As a reminder, eating or drinking anywhere in the museum except in the restaurant is strictly prohibited. However, drinking water is permitted as long as the container is kept in a bag during your visit.

The library is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Library documents can be consulted on site, in the Reading Room.

Consultation is consented to persons justifying a professional or personal university-level research that requires consulting the library collections. Access to the reading room is free and requires a registration on site with an identity document.

The works may be photographed or filmed for private use, unless otherwise stated owing to the respect for copyrights. For the visitors’ comfort and the conservation of certain works, using flashes, lamps and other lighting devices is forbidden. In the rooms displaying temporary exhibitions shots are allowed save otherwise noted. It is forbidden to photograph or film installations and technical equipment as well as the museum personnel without their previous agreement.

Only freehand drawings with pencils and colour pencils are allowed. Charcoal, pastel, watercolour, ink and felt pens are forbidden.

Only guide or assistance dogs (on presentation of a medical certificate) are authorised. 

If you are still inside the museum you can go to the Reception desk located in the entrance hall.

If you are no longer inside the museum, we invite you to call the reception desk during museum visiting hours at +33 (0)1 56 52 54 33.

For information, restitution will be made to the owner only, during museum opening hours in the two months following the date of the find. Later, the object is sent to the Service des Objets trouvés of the Préfecture de Paris, rue des Morillons (75015).
