DAL DARI. The Moon and its Legs

As part of the 140th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between France and Korea and at the invitation of the Guimet Museum, Korean artist Seulgi Lee  has imagined "DAL DARI, The Moon and its Legs", a monumental exhibition visible both inside and outside the museum, drawing inspiration from a Korean belief whereby crossing a bridge under the first full moon of the year strengthens the legs.

On the facade, "DAL, The Moon" adorns the Museum with two monumental half-circles made of wood designed in cooperation with the architect Jean-Benoît Vétillard. Their structure suggests both the modernist grid and the moonsal, the traditional Korean screen walls. Painted on a single side, those elements create an ever-changing shift in perception depending on the visitor's vantage point and movements.

In the museum's rotunda, on the 4th floor, 700 m of hung ribbons in various colours form a supple mesh weighted by small bronze bells created by the artist herself. Suggesting a reversed pattern of the dome, "DARI, The Legs" also shapes a distorted reflection of the half-moons grid set on the facade, sometimes troubled by the random tinkling of the bells.
